That port is the system's Super Charger port. The system's USB 3.0 ports contain more than meets the eye: both look like the standard USB 3.0 port with blue connectors, but the port closer to the screen is different. If the port was supplemented with an HDMI-in port, you could continue to use the AE2050-008US as a monitor when the system's internal components are obsolete. If there's any drawback to this setup, aside from the external power brick, it's that the HDMI port is only a HDMI-out port for external monitor support. The four holes surrounding the kickstand will allow you to connect the separately sold VESA mount.

The external power adapter is less convenient than built-in power supply units. The right side has a tray-loading DVD burner, and in the back are the system's HDMI-out port, four USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, audio, and the jack for the power adapter. The left of the screen has the desktop's power button, screen brightness controls, two USB 3.0 ports, and a card reader. The overall look is fine, but it is starting to look a bit middle-of-the-road compared with sexier looking systems like the HP TouchSmart 310-1125y ($699 list, 4.5 stars) and Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Thunderbolt) ($1,199 list, 4.5 stars). Sliding the keyboard straight in would be more convenient. Unfortunately, the gap requires you to tilt the keyboard in order to store it under the PC. There's a gap at the bottom of the clear plastic that lets you string the wires for the keyboard and mouse through to the back USB ports. Its components are built into the screen, which is surrounded by clear plastic that makes it seem like the screen is hovering above the table. The AE2050-008US follows the styling of previous MSI all in one desktops, like the MSI Wind Top AE2010 ($650 list, 3 stars). For generalists, there are better all-in-one desktops out there, but for cash-strapped art dabblers or novice Raphaels and Van Goghs alike, the Wind Top may be your top choice. The Wind Top's built-in Super Charger port also makes the system a great base station for touch panels like the Apple iPad or BlackBerry PlayBook.

The AE2050-008US comes with a full copy of ArtRage 3 Studio, so you can create digital paintings right off the bat. With the inclusion of some interesting art supplies, the MSI Wind Top AE2050-008US ($679.99 list) is a good entry into the world of digital art creation.
